LASER SAILOR
PINNACLE GRADUATE
Andrew is ranked world number two in Olympic Lasers.
He grew up in the sailing hotspot of Kerikeri in Northland. Nowadays he bases himself in Auckland, sailing off Takapuna, between international regattas.
Aged 26, Andrew sailed for New Zealand at the ill-fated Beijing Olympic regatta in August 2008. Becalmed, the contest almost had to be abandoned before deciding random medallists. Andrew was placed fifth, winning the final, medal race.
He has twice been world champion in team racing, captaining those teams. At youth level in the Laser class he achieved bronze (1999) and silver (2000).
Andrew is one of New Zealand’s top yachting prospects for the future. He has an engineering degree and enjoys all watersports.
Andrew was one of the first two inductees into Pinnacle (with Andrea Fountain) 2006-07.
